What do you enjoy most in the practice of general medicine?
I enjoy spending time with the patients and getting to know them as well as their family because I am aware of the stress and frustration that come with being ill. An important component of my work involves attempting to manage those emotions by providing patients with comfort as well as accurate information about their illness.
What helped make your decision in joining a community program and MacNeal Hospital for your training?
I gained most of my clinical experience at a community clinic in the USA, where I learned the joy of building strong doctor-patient bonds, spending a lot of time with them and their illnesses. Working in a community hospital is a grateful job where you can return some of your knowledge to the community and contribute to the Spanish-speaking community. I chose Macneal Hospital because it has a comfortable atmosphere and friendly residents and attendings. The program also provides us with the opportunity to get knowledge from others and feedback in order to become better doctors.
